Rwanda Village Concept Project (RVCP)
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Picture
COORDINATOR

Richard NDUWAYEZU
I am a 5th year medical student at University of Rwanda. I first heard about RVCP in secondary school when I was vice-president of my school’s Anti-AIDS club. I attended a Pyramid teaching session and workshop and have been interested ever since. When I joined medical school in 2011, I started attending general assemblies every Friday even though I hadn’t yet been selected. I was recruited into the HIV program and got actively involved in teaching sessions. I was surprised and inspired by the ideas of the youth, which led me to become Director of the program in 2013. In summer 2013, I worked with volunteers from our partner BVDA on a baseline report. We evaluated RVCP programs by conducting surveys and questionnaires, which proved very useful and valuable both for me as an individual and for RVCP as an organisation. I finally became the RVCP coordinator this year. I am very committed to improve RVCP’s efficiency in delivering its amazing activities for the communities we work for.

We do not develop the community; we help the community to develop itself.

VICE-COORDINATOR

Eric RUCOGOZA

In late 2011, when I started university, a friend of mine told me about RVCP and I became interested. It was in early 2012 at the final of competitions between HIV/AIDS clubs at Gisagara that I participated in RVCP activities for the first time. The day was so wonderful that I decided to get more involved and from that day participated actively, especially in the Pyramid program. I am now the vice-coordinator after having acted as Pyramid Director last year. I am excited to take on this position of responsibility and help RVCP to grow even stronger.

GENERAL SECRETARY

Sandrine
I am a fourth year pharmacy student and an RVCP volunteer since my second year of university. RVCP has greatly inspired me to serve my community. Being an RVCP member, and now the RVCP General Secretary, has been such an amazing opportunity that has helped build my capacity and that of others in RVCP as well. I encourage other students to come and join RVCP to further build the sustainability of our organisation and development of our communities..

TREASURER

Benedicte NDAYISHIMIYE
RVCP gives me a huge experience in my life, every time I am volunteering in the project I run many different things. In this year I became the RVCP treasurer, I am dealing with financial activities  and project monitoring, I work hard for the community’s interest. I never get this kind of experience from the class.  So I am proud of this experience from RVCP.

ROTATION OFFICER

Jean Pierre NYATANAYO
I first got involved with RVCP in 2012, where I found teaching session one of the most rewarding and valuable activities. I realised how important RVCP is in helping people progress towards a better quality of life. From that time I committed to never miss an RVCP activity. I am now pleased to be part of the RVCP committee as a Rotation Officer. I encourage everyone to come and join us to help build a better future for our target groups through RVCP projects.

ROTATION OFFICER

Marie Grace DUHUZE KARERA
RVCP has been an amazing part of my university experience. I worked as a volunteer in 2012 and very much enjoyed going to HIV teaching sessions. RVCP is a unique organisation that provides an experience that you simply cannot get from anywhere else. I was elected as general secretary in 2013, which has taught me many valuable organisational skills and helped developed my individual capacity. This year I'm very happy to be a rotation officer for RVCP.

COMMUNICATION OFFICERS

Elie MANDELA and Janvier KABOGO
We initially had interest in RVCP from the first general assembly we attended, and we got attracted by the amazing work they were doing. Once we had a chance to join we did no think twice because we knew that through RVCP we would be able to help the community and participate in the many amazing projects. We are not only excited to be part of RVCP but also grateful, we are looking forward to build our community  and take RVCP further.

PROGRAM DIRECTORS

MALARIA PREVENTION DIRECTOR

Eric UWASE
I first heard about RVCP in 2012 and was immediately interested. After listening to inspiring accounts of activities that volunteers participate in, I decided to join. For me, nothing is better than improving the lives and living conditions of underprivileged communities. Personally, I have gained valuable life experience and am so proud to have been a part of RVCP. The organisation is progressing well in serving vulnerable people through their partners and I look forward to the upcoming year.
HYGIENE, WATER & SANITATION DIRECTOR

Jean De La Croix NIYONZIMA
I have been a member of RVCP since 2012 and am proud to have been elected as director for the Hygiene programme this year. Gaining knowledge outside of school and university is very important because you can’t apply the knowledge you learn in school without having life experiences to apply it to. RVCP has given me these valuable life experiences, as I have learnt about the target groups we work with and seen how they become more self-sufficient. These indirect benefits for RVCP’s members are one of the reasons I joined – to further leadership, teaching and communication skills.
GENDER EMPOWERMENT (PYRAMID) DIRECTOR

Marie Ange UWASE
I am a fourth year Pharmacy student. RVCP is an excellent opportunity for Rwandan youth to serve their communities through different activities requiring application of what they study. RVCP improved my leadership skills through women’s rights recognition, public speaking and advocacy. Through RVCP, I gain capacity building experience that helps me empowering girls from primary school level to University level. Combined experience and skills will lead to the success of PYRAMID Program.

Let us all be powerful agents of change and we shall see Rwanda moving forward.
HIV/AIDS AWARENESS DIRECTOR

Theogene MANIRIHO
I am a third year applied mathematics student. Volunteering with 3 youth clubs last summer in discussion about HIV prevention was an unforgettable experience that encouraged me to become an active volunteer of RVCP. I have gained many things from RVCP personally, especially idea exchanging among my friends, including IPs and developing my communication skills. I am looking forward to making the HIV project even stronger during my time as program director.
INCOME GENERATION DIRECTOR

M.Florentine HATEGEKIMANA
I am a medical student in my third year and I got involved in RVCP since January 2013. I enjoy moments in RVCP because I get the opportunity to approach and serve the community throughout community works, teaching sessions and follow up of projects proposed for some targets groups. This makes me aware of how people are living in their villages and I learn how a little money available can help generating income that increases people’s standards of living. I look forwards to working and serving more the community I belong to, through RVCP.
INITIATIVES DIRECTOR

Eric HABINSHUTI
I am a fourth year student in the Civil Engineering Department. I first got involved with RVCP in my 2nd year of university, when I volunteered in the Initiative program. My role was to conduct teaching sessions on the maternal health education program. I taught women with malnourished children how to prepare a balanced diet, to improve the health of their children. Since I realized how important RVCP activities are to the community, I have been working very hard on projects. I became the head of initiatives program for this year. Volunteering with RVCP has truly been the best experience of my life.
